Is audio blog content worth it?

If you are working within marketing, you may have noticed that audio is popping up everywhere. From brands creating podcasts or their own Alexa Skills. The audio applications are  astounding. One way that businesses can start doing audio blogs is by converting their written blogs that they may already have. 

It’s evident that people enjoy watching videos online and listening to audio content, like podcasts. YouTube for example is extremely popular, therefore, it’s logical that several businesses want to focus their efforts on creating audio content.

Before going into audio article writing I often wrote blogs. But more and more of my clients wanted a quality product that was not only compliant, but a step above others. It should provide valuable data in large chunks, taking into account all consumers. A personal tip, try to get your data across using a combination of appropriate “quotes”, headings and bolded text. Consistent long, respected brand messages in the print media! Credibility also improves that is viewed as consistent with a specific brand and an acceptable way of communicating your brand and a single theme. For example, if you own a Health coaching website, your website content needs to be targeted towards a health and beauty audience. 

Consider your target audience

Everyone has different reading comprehension levels so you should be careful with the information you provide is targeted to those maximum readers. Use your energy and creativity. Content needs to be natural. No matter what your subject material is, do not use ‘hard sell’, use routes such as around 20% in bullet points, re-focusing on your subject with certain sales points, and provide benefits to your audience.

You should think about your target audience. Knowing the audience helps you to create an environment in which you save a lot of time and expense and generate a lot more revenue! If you don’t consider demographic you may be missing out on more sales than feedback.

Benefits of audio blogs

There are so many benefits of incorporating a podcast or audio blog into your business strategy such as;

  • Stand out from the crowd and competitors. This is a great way to differentiate yourself from others
  • Engagement: consumers will be more engaged with your brand. It is another medium to draw in new customers
  • Create products: once you have recorded several products, you could turn them into an ebook for consumers to listen to. 
  • Create a community: using podcasts you will reach a wider audience as well as creating a community of like minded people. 

How to create audio from blog articles

Know that audio and the written word are different: often when speaking we tend to be more informal compared to writing. 

Audio will not work for all content: knowing how to turn a piece of writing into audio will be the first step in understanding that it won’t always work. Content that converts well includes; news, FAQs, inspirational content, testimonials and long and short form storytelling. 

Do you want to record your own voice for your audio blogs or do you know someone who speaks in a better tone of voice? Having the correct tone of voice in audio can be very important, the speaker should talk clearly and in the tone of voice required depending on the topic.
